I keep my tow hooks on my vehicle if I install a WAAG grille guard? Your advertisements say "No cutting and No drilling" on your grille guards and side tubes, but is that really the case? Yes. Our guards and side tube brackets are engineered so to utilize existing factory mounting locations and avoid cutting your front bumper, particularly the front fascia. For example, WAAG uses a innovated elevated frame mount on the Ford Expedition/F150 that fits both 4x4s and 2x4 trucks and eliminates the need for cutting or drilling regardless of model. With many competitive brands, it is necessary to not only cut the fascia on a 2x4 truck, but also to drill into the frame because Ford 2x4s do not come equipped with two hooks. Back to Question / Back to Top WAAG is always touting "Bolt-on, No cutting or drilling." Why is that so important? There are several reasons it is vital: First and foremost, cutting and drilling, in many cases, can void a vehicle manufacturer rust warranty, which is a major concern for consumers in areas with seasonal snow fall and salted roads. From a consumer/installer standpoint, bolt on, no cutting and drilling offers several advantages: First, bolt on is almost always an easier installation and requires no guesswork on the part of the installer. Second, no cutting and drilling requires no special tools or modification of the vehicle. Finally, because WAAG utilizes factory mounting locations, our guards consistently mount evenly on the vehicle with little or no adjustment. Back to Question / Back to Top Can you provide any technical information on your grille guards, tail light guards and side tubes regarding tubing size and gauge? Here is some basic information on WAAG products: WAAG Grille guards are made with 1/4 steel plates. The wrap-arounds are made of 1.5 O.D cold-rolled, 16 gauge round tubing. Clearance tubes are made with 1.5 O.D., .090 gauge round tubing. The headlight grilles are 5/16 cold-rolled solid rods. We use vinyl moulding on the plates, which will not fade or crack was would rubber moulding. WAAG Tail Light Guards are made of 3/4 O.D. round tubing with 5/15 round inset rods. The brackets vary from vehicle to vehicle. WAAG Rear Bumper Guards are made with 1/4 steel plates and 1.25 O.D., 16-gauge round tubing. We use vinyl moulding on the plates, which will not fade or crack was would rubber moulding. WAAG Side Tubes are made with 3 O.D., .090 gauge round tubing. The tubes come with black non-skid steps. All WAAG products have a durable five-stage satin-black powdercoat finish, which resists chipping and fading. Back to Question / Back to Top Why does the WAAG guard look/fit better than the rest? The reasons are countless, but here are a few main ones: First, WAAG tailors each guard to reflect the characteristics of each vehicle, meaning if the truck/SUV is swept back and aero-dynamic, our guard will reflect that look. By contrast, if the truck is bold and robust, our guard will reflect that look. Secondly, WAAG spends countless hours in development to ensure that each guard follows the vehicle lines, particularly the headlights and bumper lines. Back to Question / Back to Top WAAG Wheel-to-Wheel side tubes are "always frame mounted". Why is that so important? Our Wheel-to-Wheel side tubes are frame mounted to ensure rigidity from front to back. By frame mounting our side tubes, we are able to offer a rear support bracket near the end of the tube that provides support when accessing the truck bed or tool box. Because the truck cab and truck bed move independently on the truck frame, a body-mounted full length side tube if mounted to the cab and bed would likely fail (as our competitors have found out), resulting in creaking and potentially structural breakdowns in either the body pan or the side tube brackets. Back to Question / Back to Top In your literature, you make reference to things like clearance tubes, wrap arounds, and the WAAG Runner top bar. Do you have a diagram that breaks down your guards? A. Please
click here grille guard diagram. You state that the WAAG Rear Bumper Guard accommodates a factory hitch package, does that mean it will work with all hitch packages? We only guarantee that the WAAG rear bumper guard will work with authorized factory hitch packages. Aftermarket hitches made by an independent manufacturers may or may not fit, since their mounting systems vary. It is important that you confirm with your dealership that you, indeed, have a factory hitch package since some dealerships contract with outside sources for hitches. If you do have an aftermarket hitch, feel free to send or e-mail photos of your hitch and its mounting location to support@waag.com and our technical staff can evaluate the suitability of a WAAG Rear Bumper Guard. Back to Question / Back to Top Does your grille guard for the Expedition/F150 have bent plates that will allow my custom grille to be seen? Yes, our 1999- Expedition/F150 grille guard has bent plates which V to follow the grille lines. Our 1997-98 guard has straight plates. Back to Question / Back to Top What is the difference between straight and bent plates? Is it cosmetic or are there structural concerns? WAAG is committed to making what looks best on any given truck/SUV. The difference in the guards is purely a design choice by WAAG. Both straight and bent plate guards are built to the same demanding standards that WAAG sets. We feel that if a vehicle would be better enhanced by a guard with bent plates, such as a Mercedes Benz ML320/430, then we bend them. Some vehicles do not lend themselves to such a look and are designed with straight plates. Back to Question / Back to Top WAAG is the only company that offers clearance tubes on some grille guards. Whats so special about them? Clearance tubes serve a variety of purposes. First, they often are designed for a grille guard to eliminate the need to cut the lower bumper fascia. Second, the tubes preserve ground clearance and finally, we feel that the the clearance tubes offer a unique and rugged styling feature. Back to Question / Back to Top Do you have any information on how grille guards affect deployment of air bags? There is no conclusive or comprehensive data at this time regarding air bags deployment and opinions vary to say the least. Some vehicle manufacturers, most notably Ford, Nissan and GM offer a factory grille guard for some of their trucks, so you may be able to draw your own conclusions from that. We consider our guard a medium-strength guard, suitable for pushing a vehicle, but one that will crush in an accident. Back to Question / Back to Top Ford offers several vehicle packages, Expeditions and F150s standard, limited, sport, Eddie Bauer, Lariat, Harley Davidson. Does your guard fit all of them? Yes. Our guard, regardless of model, for the 1995-2001 Explorer fits all four-door vehicles up to 2001 and two-door Explorer up to 2000. We have a different guard for the 2001 Explorer Sport/Sport Trac and a separate one for the redesigned 2002 Explorer. As for the Expedition, we have one guard for the 97-98 model and one for the 99-2002 model. The lone exception is the F150 Lightning, which would require cutting the factory bumper to install.
